The Reason for the Air Filter

One of the most highly allergenic contaminants found indoors is house dust, often heavily contaminated with the fecal pellets and skins of House Dust Mites. Estimates are that dust mites may be a factor in 50 to 80 % of asthmatics, as well as in countless cases of eczema, hay fever, and other allergic ailments. Common Air Filter Types

Standard Fiberglass The most commonly available standard in todays air filtration. These air filters are constructed with a loose woven fiberglass media. They keep at least the dirt that damages evaporator coils and blowers, out of the system. We would rather see these filters in a system than none at all.

            Pepper Packet Use ordinary Black Pepper to test the efficiency of your current air filter. Place your clean air filter face down on a piece of typing paper and sprinkle the pepper over the filter. Gently tap the filter on the side. Z-Line Pleated Type These air filters take filtration a step beyond by adding more surface area with the pleats. This gives the filter more room for trapping dirt. These filters trap smaller particles of dirt than the fiberglass model, so you must replace this filter more often than you expect.

Polyester Woven Air Filter    Carbon Packs For Odors Air filters can be combined to form a filter pack by selecting your types of media and placing them in a permanent metal frame. You can control many different types of contaminants from dust to odors.

Pleated and Treated Type Pleated and treated media combinations are available as well. When you get to this stage of selecting air filters, you should have a professional HVAC serviceman inspect your blower and motor. They will be able to make sure you still maintain the proper airflow for your system to operate properly. The more demanding of your air filter, the more demanding of your blower to pull or push air across this filter.

Cut to Order Filter Media For larger filter applications, or replacement media for all metal framed filters we have rolled media in many varieties of treatments. 1" and 2" thicknesses are available as well. Our favorite all around media is a finely woven polyester fiber and has a light coat of mineral oil on the downstream side of the filter that catches very minor particles that make it through the upstream side.
